A beautiful Greek island, Antikythera, is offering families €500 per month for three years, along with food and housing, if they choose to move there.
Antikythera, sometimes spelled Anticythera, is located at the edge of the Aegean Sea, nestled between Crete and Peloponnese. The island spans 20.43 square kilometers and is situated 38 kilometers southeast of Kythira. It is the farthest part of the Attica region, quite distant from the Athens metropolitan area. The island is famous for the discovery of the Antikythera mechanism and the historical Antikythera shipwreck. Despite its size of 20 square miles, it has a tiny population, with only 24 permanent residents that can increase to 40 during summer.
In an effort to attract more inhabitants, the Diocese of Kythera and Monemvasia is offering a monthly stipend of €500 for shelter and food to families, in collaboration with the local municipality and community.
This incentive is designed to address several issues the island faces, such as the availability of jobs in fields like baking, fishing, and construction. However, the island lacks a bank, cash machine, and many shops. Interested families must go through a selection process, with priority given to Greek nationals.
