The UK has placed restrictions on carry-on electronic devices for direct flights coming from Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia, and Saudi Arabia to protect the public. Prime Minister Theresa May’s spokesman stated that these measures are needed for safety reasons.
Previously, the United States also set similar rules for flights from 10 airports in Middle Eastern and North African countries, due to unidentified security threats.
Flights from these areas to the UK will still operate, but they must comply with the new regulations. According to the spokesman, passengers can travel safely with these steps in place.
Passengers will not be allowed to bring phones, laptops, or tablets into the cabin if they are larger than 16 cm in length, 9.3 cm in width, and 1.5 cm in depth. These devices must be placed in checked luggage instead.
