Are you thinking about traveling to Bordeaux, France? You might not believe it, but there’s a chance to find free accommodation there. Not just any kind of accommodation, but one of ten uniquely designed tiny houses specifically for travelers.
The concept of Les Refuges Periurbains was conceived by a young architect named Yvan Detraz in the 1990s. The first house, shaped like a cloud, opened its doors in 2010. Today, tourists can enjoy ten different cozy houses scattered around Bordeaux, with another one set to open next year.
Keep in mind, these houses come with no amenities: no water, no electricity, and no heating. Travelers need to bring their own sleeping bags and use nearby public toilets. Nevertheless, it’s a small trade-off for such a unique experience. And most importantly, you’ll have a roof over your head.
These houses are situated along a popular hiking route around the city that stretches for 160 km. If you’re lucky, you might get to spend each night in a different cozy, free house.
Bookings are opened once a month, with the next one starting on August 8th. Don’t miss out because these spots get snapped up quickly. Each tiny house can accommodate up to six people and can only be booked for one night. If you’re interested, make sure to visit the Les Refuges Periurbains website for more information.
The houses are available from March 1 to November 30, so seize the opportunity while you can!
