Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam has stopped all flights, and the Dutch rail service has paused all trains due to severe storms in the Netherlands. Flights, including take-offs and landings, are on hold until further notice.
The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute has issued a Code Red, the highest weather warning, for large parts of the country on Thursday. Wind gusts have reached up to 140 kph in the country’s south. Many trains have been delayed or canceled, and The Hague’s main railway station is closed because there are fears that the storm could blow off parts of the station’s new glass roof.
In Belgium, most of the country is under the second-highest alert, coded orange. However, the country’s airports have mostly remained unaffected by the severe weather.
