Even though it’s already March, Europe is still being hit hard by blizzards and storms. This cold wave has even been called the ‘Siberian blast.’ If you’re not in the mood to go outside, why not wrap yourself in a warm blanket, pour a big cup of tea, and watch a travel movie for some inspiration?
TravelFree has put together a list of 10 travel movies that should ignite your wanderlust. This is the second list, so if you’re curious about the 10 movies we previously recommended, you can find them on our site.
1. In Bruges (2008)
This may not be a typical ‘travel’ movie since the characters didn’t choose their destination willingly—they were forced to go to Bruges. Oh, and they’re a pair of hitmen. Despite its dark humor and sharp script, what will really captivate you are the enchanting views of the small town of Bruges in Belgium. If you haven’t visited Bruges yet, this movie will definitely make you want to go.
2. Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008)
Another gem from 2008 set in Europe, this Woody Allen film isn’t just about the beautiful city of Barcelona. It also delves into the passionate and emotional lifestyles of Spanish people. Whether or not you’re planning a trip to Barcelona, this movie is definitely worth a watch.
3. The Legend of Tarzan (2016)
Packed with action and adventure, this movie takes you through jungles, mountains, and oceans. In this version, Tarzan is living a tamed life in London but returns to the jungle when called. Directed by David Yates, the mastermind behind many Harry Potter films, it tells an incredible story about the ‘Jungle King.’
4. The Bucket List (2007)
This heartfelt comedy isn’t centered on any specific destination, but it’s all about the most important journey—the journey to oneself. Two men from different social backgrounds, both diagnosed with cancer, decide to create a ‘bucket list’ and do all the things they’ve never done before, making the most of their remaining time.
5. Amelie (2001)
Most people have seen Amelie, but it’s so captivating that it’s worth watching again. The story, directing, acting, music, and cinematography are nearly flawless. Set in the Paris district of Montmartre, it will make you fall in love with Paris all over again—or for the first time.
6. Everest (2015)
Back to the adventures! Climbing is one of the toughest yet most romanticized sports, and climbers often have fascinating stories. Based on true events, Everest follows a group of alpinists attempting to conquer the highest mountain on Earth. The movie highlights one of the worst disasters on Mount Everest, promising a thrilling viewing experience.
7. Crocodile Dundee (1986)
No Australian movie is as iconic as Crocodile Dundee. Dive into an adventure in the Southern Hemisphere with the legendary Dundee, who is loosely based on a Latvian WWII veteran. 8. Kon Tiki (2012)
Continuing with the adventure theme, Kon Tiki tells the story of five Norwegians who embark on a perilous journey to prove that Polynesia was initially populated by South Americans. And they do it on a raft, making this an epic adventure you won’t want to miss.
9. On the Road (2012)
We’ve covered Europe, Australia, Polynesia, and Nepal, but what about the USA? On the Road is based on Jack Kerouac’s classic novel that inspired countless young people. The breathtaking views and adventures make this film a must-watch before your next road trip.
