Flights, whether long or short, often end up being quite uncomfortable, especially if you’re flying economy class. However, despite this, I find a certain charm in the whole flying experience. I love the hustle and bustle of airports – sipping a coffee, jotting down notes in my diary, or simply people-watching and imagining their life stories. This entire process sparks a sense of inspiration and creativity in me. To make flights more bearable, though, there are a few strategies I swear by. Here are ten tips that have made flying much more comfortable for me.
The first thing I do after settling into my seat is to take off my shoes and put on some cozy socks. It’s amazing how much more comfortable you feel without shoes!
I often get cold during flights, so I always bring an extra sweater. A big, soft, and warm sweater is essential for keeping comfortable during the journey. Forget about wearing short dresses, stylish blazers, or tight pants – prioritize comfort!
One of my favorite travel essentials is my inflatable neck pillow. With just a couple of breaths, it’s fully inflated and super comfy. Plus, it’s compact enough to fit into my tiny purse. Your neck, back, and maybe even your neighbor’s shoulder will thank you.
Blocking out light can help you get some rest or sleep. Using an eye mask prevents interruptions from cabin lights or other passengers.
The air on planes is very dry, causing dehydration, dry eyes, and even headaches. To combat this, it’s crucial to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
In addition to water, bring some beauty essentials in your carry-on. Items like lip balm, moisturizer, and hand lotion can help you feel fresher and more comfortable during the flight.
Plane food and snacks can be expensive and not always the best quality. I always pack my own snacks such as a small pack of nuts or some fruit like an apple or a banana. They’re not only healthier but also more satisfying.
Noise on planes can be quite distracting – from people chatting to children crying. Bringing a pair of noise-canceling headphones or earplugs can help you relax and even catch some sleep.
Moving around during the flight is important too. It might feel a bit awkward to walk up and down the aisle, but it’s necessary to get your blood circulating. I often combine this with a bathroom visit.
Finally, keep yourself entertained. Whether your flight is two hours or eleven, it’s more fun to spend the time doing things you enjoy. Bring a book, diary, fully charged tablet or laptop, or some games to make the time pass more pleasantly.
