WizzAir is set to close its base in Kosice, Slovakia, in May, and it will cut down its flight operations to just one route. This decision is due to low demand. The Hungarian budget airline will cancel three out of its four routes currently operating from Kosice, Slovakia’s second-largest city.
From mid-May, WizzAir will operate only the route from Kosice to London-Luton, where it has its base. The routes to Cologne in Germany and Doncaster in the United Kingdom will be canceled in May, while the route to Tel Aviv, Israel, will be scrapped in June 2018.
Passengers affected by these changes should get in touch with WizzAir. The airline is offering alternative flights or compensation amounting to 120 percent of the original ticket price.
The closure of the Kosice base will also lead to job losses at the local airport. WizzAir employees in Kosice will be offered positions at other locations, with relocation assistance provided.
